Short answer: anything from a few dollars to several thousand dollars a month. The model you pick and how many tasks the agent runs matter most. For a typical agent doing 500 tasks a day, the model bill ranges from about $45.00 to $1,800 a month with the models below.
How the bill is calculated
LLM providers charge per token (roughly ¾ of a word), with separate prices for what you send in (input) and what the model writes back (output). An agent usually calls the model several times per task: it plans, uses a tool, reads the result and answers. Each of those calls is a step.
Monthly cost = steps per task × tokens per step × price × tasks per day × 30.
Our example agent
A support or research agent that takes 6 steps per task, sends 3,000 input tokens and gets back 400 output tokens per step, with no caching. We show three sizes: a side project (50 tasks/day), a small business (500/day) and a busy product (5,000/day).

Example: with Claude Sonnet 5.5 ($2 input / $10 output per million tokens), one step costs about $0.010, one task about $0.060, and 500 tasks a day add up to roughly $900 a month.
Costs people forget
- Growing context: each step often re-sends the whole conversation, so later steps are bigger than early ones.
- Retries and loops: an agent stuck in a loop can burn a day's budget in minutes. Set a step limit.
- Reasoning tokens: "thinking" models bill hidden reasoning as output tokens.
- Tools and hosting: search APIs, web scraping, vector databases, monitoring and servers. See our tools directory for their pricing.
